After the first few orientations, the Silver Spring Timebank is picking up steam! Members have already exchanged more than 30 hours and we’re hearing great feedback about the activities that are taking place. From sharing rides to the airport, trading recipes, offering resume advice, and more, folks have started making new connections every week.
A huge thanks to SEEC for providing their great space for the sessions in February.
It’s been an exciting experience to hear all the skills our members have to offer. By joining the timebank, folks have access to speech pathology, babysitting, bicycle tuning, management consulting, help with picture hanging, and help with gardening. And at each orientation new relationships were created.
Keeping to the tenor of the sessions, Pete Tantisunthorn, of Silver Spring, Inc., commented: “I’m ecstatic to have the Silver Spring Timebank serving our community. I’m excited to be a member, further engage and explore my community through exchange, and reap the benefits of having the timebank in Silver Spring. Many thanks to Silver Spring Shares for starting it!”
Fellow timebank member, Abi Rome, Board Member and Program Chair for Silver Spring Green, said, “I love the idea of being able to share my skills and favorite activities with others while also benefitting from theirs. The timebank builds connection among community members and helps us get to know our neighbors. I was so excited about it that I volunteered to get up at 4:00 in the morning on the coldest day that we’d had since 1897 to drive another time bank member to the airport. And, I enjoyed the ride!”
With this level of energy and excitement, don’t miss this accelerating train. No worries, it will stop anywhere it needs to pick up more community members!
Join us at the next orientation on Thursday, March 19th , from 7:00pm to 8:30pm, at Eastern Village Cohousing, 7981 Eastern Avenue in Silver Spring. For more information and to RSVP, contact firstname.lastname@example.org or 301-412-3401.
