As the Timebanks USA website describes it, “TimeBanking is a way of giving and receiving to build supportive networks and strong communities. One hour helping another earns one TimeBank Hour or Time Dollar. TimeBanking builds on the magic of “pay it forward,” one good turn leading to another and another.”
We learned specifics about how to start a time bank, how to keep track of exchanges, how to build trust among members and the time bank community, and the details of exchange dos and don’ts.
Next steps…is there a time bank in Silver Spring’s future? It sounds like we could get one up and running with a core group of interested sharers. If you missed the meeting, check out the links above for both time banks. The Greenbelt Timebank uses hOurworld software which may be easiest for a start-up time bank.
Come to the next Silver Spring Shares meeting (TBA) and connect with those who could form the core group for the Silver Spring time bank!
